The Argentine Football Association (AFA) has filed an official complaint with the FIFA Disciplinary Committee in connection with the scandal of the match with Morocco in the group stage of the 2024 Olympics, journalist Gaston Edul reported on Twitter.
The match at Stade Geoffroy-Guichard in Saint-Etienne ended without an audience after a two-hour break. Due to disturbances caused by Moroccan fans invading the pitch, the match was abandoned by the referee in the 16th minute of stoppage time with the score 2:2.
During the break, the referees reviewed Christian Medina's equalizer and overturned the offside goal. As a result, the match ended with a score of 2:1 in favor of the Moroccans.
"What we Argentinians had to go through in Saint-Etienne is a pity. Almost two hours of waiting in the dressing room, after which our players had to come out again to continue the match, which had to be stopped by the referee after the invasion of the field by Moroccan spectators and the violence experienced by the Argentine delegation. It's all really pointless and against the rules of the competition. In addition, the opinions of the captains of both teams, who felt that the match should not have been restarted, were not heard. From the Argentine Football Association, we have already filed a complaint with the FIFA Disciplinary Committee so that appropriate regulatory measures can be taken and sanctions imposed on those responsible," commented the president of the Argentine Football Association (AFA), Claudio Tapia, as quoted by Mundo Albiceleste. | BGNES
