French striker Antoine Griezmann has announced his retirement from the country's national team at the age of 33. The Atletico Madrid international played 137 games and scored 44 goals for the Roosters over a 10-year spell, helping the team become world champions in 2018.
"With a heart full of memories, I close this chapter of my life. Thank you for this great adventure with the national shirt and see you soon", he wrote on social media.
Griezmann started for France in the 1:3 loss to Italy in the Nations League during the last international break in September. His final appearance for the Roosters came off the bench in a 2:0 win over Belgium three days later.
In addition to the 2018 World Cup in Russia, Griezmann also lost the 2022 World Cup final in Qatar, as well as a home European Championship defeat in 2016. With France, he won the 2021 Nations League. | BGNES
