In the second and final Star Wars memorabilia auction, actor Anthony Daniels could make around $1 million by selling one of C-3PO's glowing heads.
The 78-year-old actor, who has spent more than 40 years playing the stiff robot in films and TV series from the "Star Wars" franchise, is unloading his entire collection of merchandise from the sci-fi franchise at an auction hosted by memorabilia specialists Propstore to be held next week in Los Angeles.
Among the highlights of the "Anthony Daniels Collection" is the glowing C-3PO head that Anthony wore in 1983's "Return of the Jedi," which consists of a faceplate, backplate and neck ring.
The Hollywood Reporter claims it "could fetch between $500,000 and $1 million," as a similar auction featuring Anthony in November saw another C-3PO head sell for nearly $850,000.
Anthony tells the publication of his robot costume, "It's not just the props I wore, but the props I used in interviews to identify myself. You don't know my face, but you know this face."
He admits he had a "slight hesitation" 'about selling C-3PO's head at the auction and says he wondered, "Is it the right thing to do?"
UK-born Anthony continued, "I've lived with these items for 50 years with some of them and have very mixed feelings (about selling them)."
The upcoming auction marks the second and final batch of items sold by the actor, with Anthony being the only Star Wars lead actor to openly sell his memorabilia.
Last year, items belonging to the late actor Peter Mayhew, who died in 2019 at the age of 74 of a heart attack after a long struggle with gigantism and a genetic tissue disorder, had to be sold until his widow learned of the auction and asked that the items be donated to the actor's foundation./BGNES
