According to American media, famous actors Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have signed a divorce agreement on December 30.
Jolie's lawyer James Simon confirmed the agreement to People magazine, stating that Jolie is "focused on finding peace and healing for their family."
"This is just part of a long process that began eight years ago," Simon was quoted as saying by AFP.
"Honestly, Angelina is exhausted but relieved that this part of her life is over," he added.
Details of the agreement between the former couple were not immediately available.
Jolie filed for dissolution of their marriage in September 2016 and the couple has remained locked in a court battle since.
Jolie filed for divorce a few days after a flight during which she alleged in court documents that Pitt strangled one of their children and punched another during a fight on a plane.
In the documents, filed in a Los Angeles court and widely quoted in US media, Jolie described a prolonged tantrum by Pitt while the couple were flying with the children from California to France in September 2016.
In the ensuing years, the A-list stars have clashed over custody of the children - three biological and three adopted - and more recently over ownership of a luxury French property they bought together.
In 2018, the couple reached a custody agreement over their six children, three of whom are adopted, although it appears to have since fallen apart.
Pitt, 61, and Jolie, 49, are also embroiled in a separate legal battle relating to the sale of Jolie's share of Chateau Miraval, the vineyard in the south of France where the couple held their wedding.
In February 2022. Pitt accused his former co-star of violating his rights when she transferred her stake in the winery to a subsidiary of the Stoli Group, which is owned by a billionaire of Russian descent.
In his court filings, Pitt said Jolie "attempted to harm him" with the sale, citing alleged ties between the company's owner, Yuri Scheffler, and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
But Scheffler has long been an outspoken critic of Putin, and his drinks conglomerate Stoli Group is based in Latvia.
Pitt and Jolie first reunited after starring together as married assassins in the 2005 film Mr. and Mrs. Smith. At the time, Pitt was married to Jennifer Aniston. | BGNES
