The Scotsman and Dan Evans beat Taro Daniel and Kei Nishikori of Japan.
Andy Murray and Dan Evans produced a fantastic turnaround, saving five match points to cruise to dramatic success in the doubles tennis competition at the Paris Olympics.
A few days ago, three-time Grand Slam champion Murray announced his retirement from tennis after the Olympics, with the Scot pulling out of the singles tournament in the French capital to focus on doubles.
He and Evans faced Japanese tandem Taro Daniel and Kei Nishikori in the first round on Sunday, with the Asians winning seven straight games to take a set and break ahead in the second. Murray and Evans battled back from 2-4 down to win the second set on a tiebreak. It came down to a decisive third set, in which the British were losing 4-9, but they did the unthinkable and, after seven consecutive points, qualified for the next phase.
For Murray and Evans, there is a match in the round of 16 with Sander Gillet/Johan Vliegen (Belgium) or the representatives of the hosts Artur Fils/Jugo Umber. | BGNES
