The Ukrainian state nuclear energy agency "Energoatom" confirmed that one of its employees was detained for accepting a bribe, Ukrinform reported.
The employee, who heads the control and audit department, was arrested near Energoatom's Kiev office while accepting a bribe of 100,000 hryvnias (about $2,400). The money was requested in exchange for solving a fuel supply problem.
The agency said "the detainee used his connections to help resolve the issue with another firm, acting as an intermediary for the contractor." The operation was conducted by the Main Directorate of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) in Kyiv and Kyiv Region under the supervision of the City Prosecutor's Office.
"Energoatom's main priority is ensuring compliance with applicable laws, and the company has a strict zero-tolerance policy for corruption," Energoatom's statement said. "This policy applies not only to internal matters, but also to the conduct of employees outside of their official duties."
"Energoatom" plays a key role in Ukraine's energy sector and actively participates in the modernization and expansion of the country's nuclear facilities, despite the challenges posed by the ongoing war." | BGNES
