The mayor of a northern Austrian town was shot dead on the morning of October 28. The suspect of the perpetrator is being sought, the local police reported, quoted by "CNN".
Franz Hofer, mayor of Kirchberg ob der Donau, was killed in Altenfelden, near the border with Germany and the Czech Republic.
A second man was also shot later, Upper Austria police spokeswoman Ulrike Handelbauer said.
The suspect has left the scene and a large-scale police operation involving helicopters and special forces is underway.
"Unfortunately, we believe the perpetrator we're looking for may be carrying the weapon," Handelbauer said.
Police said the motive for the crime appeared to be a dispute over hunting rights. | BGNES
