The move comes amid rising regional tensions over Israel's ongoing offensive in the Gaza Strip, which has killed nearly 40 100 people and injured 92 600 since 7 October last year.
Israeli public broadcaster KAN reported that American Airlines has extended the suspension of its flights to Tel Aviv's Ben Gurion airport until April next year.
The airline did not provide specific details about the long-term suspension of flights.
Several major international carriers, including United Airlines and Delta Air Lines, have also suspended flights to Israel.
As of early August, the total number of foreign airlines that have suspended flights to and from Israel reached 20, according to KAN.
Israel has been on a state of heightened military alert for a potential retaliatory attack by Iran following the assassination of Hamas political chief Ismail Haniyeh last month in the Iranian capital Tehran on July 31.
Iran and Hamas have accused Israel of carrying out Haniyeh's assassination, but Israel has neither confirmed nor denied responsibility.
The Lebanese group Hezbollah has also vowed to retaliate against Israel following the killing of its senior commander Fuad Shukr in an airstrike in Beirut on 30 July. | BGNES
