Amazon donates $1 million to the INSAIT Institute at Sofia University

Amazon Web Services donates 1 million US dollars to the Institute for Computer Sciences, Artificial Intelligence and Technologies (INSAIT) at Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski". Funds are awarded for demonstrated high performance and potential for growth, and are intended to be used for formal methods research. They will also provide support for researchers' salaries, as well as scholarships for doctoral students and students at the institute.

Along with this, the strategic partnership between the researchers and engineers of INSAIT and Amazon Web Services was launched.

"INSAIT is the first world-class research institute in Eastern Europe, structured on the model of the world's leading research institutions. In a short period, INSAIT has been able to attract outstanding international researchers in computer vision and machine learning, as well as strong PhD students from around the world," Amazon Web Services' official announcement of the donation states.

AWS support will help INSAIT attract top researchers in the field of artificial intelligence and formal methods.

"We are pleased to support INSAIT with a $1 million donation. and to help attract professors to the field. The institute is an inspiring initiative, and we look forward to establishing closer research ties and collaboration mechanisms with students and faculty from it," said Amazon Web Services Vice President and one of the world's most famous engineers Byron Cook.

"This is an important step for us because formal methods are a fundamental area of computer science and of increasing practical importance in a wide range of fields, including information security, reliable artificial intelligence, robotics and many others." The financial support will allow us to expand the field of our research in this area," said Prof. Martin Vechev, founder of INSAIT.

BGNES reminds that a week ago the INSAIT Institute at Sofia University became one of about 50 organizations in the world that received an invitation to participate in the historic first global Alliance for Artificial Intelligence in the world. The initiative is by IBM and Meta. /BGNES
