Amad Diallo's late hat-trick brought about the turnaround and victory of Manchester United against Southampton with 3:1 in a match of the 21st round of the Premier League.
After showing a good game in their last two matches against Liverpool and Arsenal, they had big problems at home to the last in the standings. The Saints were better on the field for most of the match and only United goalkeeper Andre Onana stopped them from recording a second success of the campaign.
Southampton's strong play paid off shortly before the break, when the team took the lead in the score after an own goal by Manuel Ugarte, which came after a corner kick. Ruben Amorim's men looked hopeless in attack until the 82nd minute, when Amad Diallo equalised with a diagonal shot. In the 90th minute, Diallo received a precise pass from Christian Eriksen and with a difficult volley made it 2-1, and in added time he completed his hat-trick after a blunder in the visitors' defence.
Thus, Manchester United recorded their first success in the championship since defeating city rivals Manchester City in mid-December. The "Red Devils" are in 12th place in the standings with 26 points, while Southampton are at the bottom with just six points from 21 matches.
