Carlos Alcaraz announced his withdrawal from the Monte-Carlo Masters due to an injury in the right hand area.
“I trained in Monte-Carlo and tried to recover until the last possible moment from an injured muscle in my right forearm, but it was not possible and I cannot play! I was really looking forward to playing here…See you next year!”, the 20-year-old Spaniard wrote on social media.
Alcaraz found his best form at the Indian Wells and Miami tournaments by first successfully defending his title in the Californian desert before losing to in-form Grigor Dimitrov in the quarter-finals in Miami.
The Spanish talent, who is ranked third in the men's world rankings and his record is 15-4 this season, showed up for training in Monte-Carlo with a bandage on his right forearm. Italy's Lorenzo Sonego will take 20-year-old Alcaraz's place in the draw as a "lucky loser" and will face Felix Auger-Aliassim in the second round. /BGNES
