World No. 3 Carlos Alcaraz has withdrawn from the Masters 1000 in Rome as he continues to recover from an arm injury, the two-time Grand Slam champion announced.
After successfully defending his title in Indian Wells and reaching the quarter-finals in Miami, the 20-year-old Spaniard injured his forearm in training in Monaco and continues to experience problems with it, which delayed his start on clay. He was aiming to become the first player to win three consecutive titles in Madrid, but was stopped by Andrei Rublev in the quarter-finals in the Spanish capital after losing 6-4, 3-6, 2-6.
"I felt pain after participating in the tournament in Madrid, discomfort in my arm. Unfortunately, I will not be in Rome. I need to rest to recover and be able to play again at 100% without feeling pain. Very sorry, see you next year", Alcaraz wrote on the X.
The Rome Masters will be held from May 8-19 and is a rehearsal for the tennis players before the start of Roland Garros, which begins on May 26. /BGNES
