Carlos Alcaraz qualified for the round of 16 of the Australian Open after defeating Portuguese Nuno Borges 6-2, 6-4, 6-7(3), 6-2 in a match from the third round of the tournament.
The world number 3 was very solid on his own serve throughout the match and did not lose his serve once, but despite this, Borges managed to win the third set after a tiebreak. In the other three parts, Alcaraz dominated and had no problem achieving success after nearly three hours of play.
The Spaniard finished the match with 54 winning shots and 50 unforced errors, while Borges' balance was 54/50. Alcaraz was successful in his attempts at the net, winning 25 points from 33 attempts.
For a place in the quarterfinals, Alcaraz will argue with the British Jack Draper or the representative of the hosts Aleksandar Vukic.
Tommy Paul (USA) and Alexander Zverev (Germany) also qualified for the round of 16 in the men's scheme. | BGNES
