Albert Popov: This is a dream come true, I've been waiting for it for so long

This is a dream come true, I've been waiting for it for a long time. This is what an emotional Albert Popov shared after his historic triumph in the Alpine Skiing World Cup in Madonna di Campiglio.

In the Italian winter resort, he was running eighth after the first run, before blowing away the competition in the second for his debut victory in the World Cup in his career. This is the first win for Bulgaria since 1980, when exactly 45 years ago, Petar Popangelov stepped on top in the slalom in Lengris, Germany.

"That's why I'm happy that my dream came true right here in Madonna di Campiglio. I love this race, I love the track, I love the people here. Thank you very much for your support. We wanted to be in top shape in January. That was the goal. First race of the year, first victory. Everything is incredible. Thank you to my team, my family, my daughter Kaja. This is for all of you", said Albert after his victory.

After that, he is already seventh in the battle for the Small Crystal Globe in the slalom discipline. The Bulgarian's next start is in Adelboden, Switzerland on January 11. | BGNES
