Alain Delon would have been 89 years old today: his son Anthony presents a touching video in his memory

It's an excerpt from an interview between father and son that combines candor and humor.

November 8th, was an emotional day for the Delon family as Alain Delon would have been celebrating his 89th birthday. A little more than two months after the death of the French cinema icon, Anthony Delon took to his Instagram account to share memories in a video. The footage shows the samurai at his home in Douchy talking to his son.

Anthony was in the habit of visiting his father "twice a month, on Thursdays". During one of these visits, on March 31st, 2022, he films the retired actor asking him about the significance of this little father-son tradition.

"I hope to die on such a Thursday," Alain Delon replies to the camera from his kitchen. "And I hope! But you're just saying it for laughs," Anthony replies. "No, no, I wouldn't want to go on a Wednesday. Someone should have warned me," adds Alain Delon, laughing.

In the title of the video presented today, Anthony Delon explains, "It's been a year since the publication of my book Entre chien et loup [published in March 2022]. After gritting his teeth a bit, he understood what I was talking about... Love, resilience and, above all, forgiveness. He knew, as I did, that you can't make up for lost time, but you can make the most of the time you have. So we decided to meet in Souls, two Thursdays a month, to establish this tradition and exchange ideas, to leave a trace of us, of the discussion, in a filmed document. He didn't leave on Thursday, but on Sunday. And I was there. A conversation between father and son. You would have been 89 years old today."

After a life marked by illness, Alain Delon died on August 18th, surrounded by family and friends at his beloved home in Douchy. As he wished, he is buried there, along with the many dogs that accompanied him throughout his life. Despite their differences over how to handle the end of their father's life, Anthony, Anouche and Alain-Fabien Delon attended the intimate ceremony, held in the small chapel the cheetah had built on his estate.

Anthony Delon gives a photo of Lubo, his father Alain Delon's last dog, from his home in Douchy, Loiret, on November 7th, 2024 on Instagram. Anthony Delon returned to Douchy on Thursday (November 7), the eve of his father's first birthday following his passing. The 60-year-old actor took the opportunity to break the news about Loubo, Alain Delon's last dog who is now in his care. He will return to Paris on Friday evening to attend the symphony film-concert "Delon le dernier Samouraï", performed by 80 musicians at the Palais des Congrès.

As well as paying tribute to Alain Delon, the event supports the Alzheimer's Research Foundation. Alain-Fabien will also be there. | BGNES
