The funeral ceremony of Alain Delon began at 16:42 (17:42 Bulgarian time) in the chapel specially built by the actor in his property in the village of Duchy, located south of Paris, BFM TV reported.
Behind closed doors to respect the actor's privacy, this funeral was officiated by the former Bishop of Gap, Monsignor Jean-Michel Di Falco. For on-site security reasons, mobile phones are confiscated from all guests.
Those who gathered outside the gates of the La Brulerie mansion observed a moment of silence at 5pm local time, just as Delon was laid to rest.
"Even if he wanted to be all alone, we have to show him that we love him. So we're putting together a little something for him to show him that he's not completely alone," Cathy, who came up with the idea for the minute's silence, explained to BFM TV.
After the minute was up, the star's fans sang in unison the hit Paroles, Paroles performed by Dalida and Alain Delon.
“Just then it started to rain, as if to thank us, and two minutes later the weather was fine. He thanked us for the honor," Kathy said.
"He dried our tears with the help of the sun," added another fan.
