Adrian Andreev qualified for the second round of singles at the clay tournament in Szczecin (Poland) of the Challenger series with a prize fund of 148,625 euros.
The Bulgarian prevailed over German Lucas Gerh, who started from the qualifiers, 3:6, 6:4, 6:3 in two hours and 43 minutes of play, with the first-round meeting going through an interruption of several hours due to rain.
Andreev trailed 1:4 in the first set and lost it 3:6. In the second part, the rivals exchanged a total of five breaks, and Adrian caught up from 2:3 to 4:3 and closed the set at 6:4. In the third set, Adrian Andreev took a 5:2 lead and won 6:3. So he got a revenge of sorts against Gerch, who defeated him in the second round of the Challenger Series tournament in the Czech capital Prague at the end of August.
Andreev's opponent in the second round of the tournament will be the fourth seed and number 84 in the world ranking, Daniel Altmeier from Germany. | BGNES
