About 75,000 people protested in France against the immigration law

Protests against the new immigration law were held in various French cities. According to data from the Ministry of the Interior, about 75,000 people took to the streets, reports Le Figaro. In four days, France's Constitutional Council must reach a conclusion on this bill.
In Paris, the police counted 16,000 protesters. According to the trade union association "General Confederation of Labor" there are about 150,000 demonstrators throughout France. Protesters chanted slogans such as "Repeal the law" and "French or migrants - we are all working class".
More than 200 French celebrities have called to oppose the law. According to them, the amendments mark an "ideological victory for the extreme right": it means that the votes of the nationalist National Assembly party will be decisive in the parliamentary vote.
Amendments to the immigration law passed by the lower house of parliament in December 2023 have been tabled in parliament. They tighten the rules for migrants, in particular restrict access to social benefits, simplify the process of expelling those who break the law, and introduce daily quotas for migrants./BGNES
