A wave of job cuts at General Motors' software division

US automaker General Motors said it will cut staff in software and IT services, confirming several US media reports that more than 1,000 jobs will be cut.

"As we build the future of GM, we must simplify our operations to achieve speed and excellence," the Detroit, Michigan-based concern said in a statement sent to AFP.

"To do this, we are reducing the size of some teams in the software and services division," the manufacturer continues.

American media reported over a thousand job cuts, citing sources close to the matter.

In January 2023, the concern announced that it planned to make savings of more than two billion dollars in the next two years.

In the 2023 financial year, GM was able to reduce its administrative expenses by almost 8% compared to the previous year.

According to the company's annual reports, the workforce was cut from 167,000 to 163,000 between the end of 2022 and the end of 2023.

About 600 of the job cuts will be made at the plant in Warren, Michigan, according to CNN. | BGNES
