A strong start for Uruguay in Copa America

Uruguay beat Panama 3-1 in a Copa America Group C match. Former Levski Sofia FC defender Jose Cordoba played the entire match for the Panamanians.

Marcelo Bielsa's team took the lead in the 16th minute. Maximiliano Araujo received the ball in front of the penalty area and with a great shot drove it into the goal for 1:0. More good opportunities followed in front of Araujo and Darwin Nunes, but they were saved by goalkeeper Orlando Mosquera.

At the beginning of the second part, Panama also showed its teeth and in the 59th minute it reached its best opportunity of the match. Puma had a great long shot but Sergio Rochet made a brilliant save.

Uruguay decided everything in the closing minutes. First, in the 85th, Darwin Nunes scored for 2:0, signing off with a volley shot. In the 91st minute, Matias Viña made it 3-0 with a header after a cross from a Nicolas de la Cruz foul.

Panama scored an honorable goal in the 94th minute. Michael Murillo scored a beautiful goal with a diagonal shot for the final 3:1.

Thus, Uruguay started their participation in the tournament convincingly and topped their group, with an equal number of points, but a better goal difference than the USA team, which prevailed 2:0 over Bolivia in the other group match. Success came after goals from Christian Pulisic and Folarin Balogun. The opponent's goalkeeper Guillermo Vizcarra saved a bunch more chances in front of his own goal. | BGNES
