In 2026, Warner Bros. will release the first in its new "Lord of the Rings" series of feature films, which will focus on Andy Serkis' Gollum.
Original trilogy director Peter Jackson and his partners Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens are producing the film and "will be involved every step of the way," Warner Bros. chief executive said. Discovery CEO David Zaslav.
The project is currently in the early stages of script development by screenwriters Walsh and Boyens, along with Phoebe Gittins and Artie Papageorgiou, and will "explore storylines that have not yet been told," Zaslav said.
In a press release from Warner Bros. the studio revealed that the film's working title is "The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum" and will be directed by Serkis in his iconic title role. The film will be produced by Ken Cummins, along with Serkis and Jonathan Cavendish. / BGNES
