"If everything is in order, a meeting between the foreign ministers of Ukraine and Hungary may take place on January 29 in Uzhgorod, Ukraine, where the two sides will discuss issues related to bilateral cooperation," said Hungary's top diplomat Peter Szijjarto, Telex reported.
Szijjarto said that holding a Hungarian-Ukrainian summit makes sense only if it can lead to significant results, and for that to happen, proper preparations are needed.
It is to this end that he and his Ukrainian counterpart, Dmytro Kuleba, will meet in Uzhhorod on January 29 to discuss bilateral cooperation issues in detail and explore whether a summit meeting can help advance relations or what additional work is needed must be done to bring together the leaders of both countries in the hope of success.
The Hungarian foreign minister said he would also be happy to meet Andrii Yermak, head of the Ukrainian presidential office, but said no date has yet been proposed. "I am still here and I am waiting for a proposal for a date, and if necessary, I will also meet with him. If the meeting with Minister Kuleba is sufficient, this is, of course, an internal decision of the Ukrainians, not ours."
He called for a "bazaar atmosphere" to be avoided on the issue of frozen EU funds, saying no negotiations were taking place and unrelated issues should not be mixed up. "Hungary is entitled to funds from the EU. Regardless of Ukraine, the position of the moon or the Martians. These funds must be delivered to Hungary. There is absolutely no legitimate reason for the European Commission to withhold these funds," he added./BGNES
