The fluffy pouched animal had broken into an independent supermarket in the town of Menyan, located about two hours away from Melbourne.
Pictures show the koala walking down the soft drinks aisle, climbing the spice rack and getting on the newspaper rack. She pauses briefly to nibble on leaves offered to her by an employee.
Store owner Kaelyn Sherval said she had "great difficulty" getting the stubborn koala to leave the supermarket and return to the trees nearby.
Koalas are an endangered species in parts of Australia. Population declines are worsening in some regions because of bushfires and land clearing for mining.
Despite popular belief, koalas are not part of the bear family. | BGNES
