A key power plant near Kiev was destroyed by Russian strikes

A large power plant near Kiev was completely destroyed by Russian strikes in the early morning of April 11, the energy company Centrenergo reported, as quoted by the BBC.
The Tripilya power plant was the largest supplier of electricity to three regions, including Kyiv, officials said.
"The scale of the destruction is appalling," said Centrenergo chairman Andrii Hota.
Russia has long deliberately and systematically attacked Ukraine's energy system.
Mr Hota told the BBC that Thursday morning's strikes destroyed "the transformer, the turbines and the generators. They destroyed 100% of the facility".
Following Thursday's massive airstrike, a fire broke out in the plant's turbine workshop in Tripoli - located 50km south of Kiev.
The head of Centrenergo said the plant had been targeted by multiple missiles. According to him, the officers who were on shift were able to escape as they ran for cover immediately after the first drone struck.
Residents were urged to close their windows, charge all their devices and stock up on water.
In the early hours of Thursday, more than 80 missiles and drones were aimed at targets across Ukraine. Many of them targeted energy infrastructure, and almost a third of them went through Ukraine's air defenses.
Hours later, Centrenergo confirmed that the Tripilia plant had been taken out of service. Hota stated that all of his company's production capacity in Ukraine has already been destroyed.
It is one of the largest suppliers of electricity and heat energy in Ukraine. It operated two other power plants - one in Kharkiv Oblast, which was destroyed at the end of March, and one in an area of Donetsk Oblast, which was taken over by Russia in 2022/BGNES
