The terrorist group Hamas said a delegation would leave for Cairo on May 4 to resume talks on a ceasefire in the Gaza war in a "positive spirit", AFP reported.
"The Hamas delegation will leave for Cairo on May 4 to continue negotiations," the group said in a statement posted on its website.
"We emphasize the positive spirit with which the leadership of Hamas has approached the ceasefire proposal it recently received, and we are going to Cairo in the same spirit to reach an agreement. We of Hamas and the Palestinian resistance forces are determined to reach an agreement, which will fulfill the demands of our people for a complete cessation of aggression, withdrawal of occupying forces, return of displaced persons, aid and rehabilitation, and a serious exchange deal," the statement said.
A senior Hamas official said one of the group's leaders, Khalil al-Hayya, would lead the delegation.
Mediators the US, Egypt and Qatar are awaiting Hamas's response to Israel's offer to stop fighting for 40 days and exchange hostages for Palestinian prisoners, which Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh earlier said the group was considering in a "positive spirit"./BGNES
