Dozens of sites in France were subjected to a cyberattack over the weekend, AFP reported.
The Grand Palais and around 40 other museums in France, including the famous Louvre, fell victim to the ransomware attack.
Cybercriminals attacked the system used to "centralize financial data".
France's national cyber security agency ANSSI confirmed it had been notified of the "incident", adding that the hacked systems had no role in the Olympics.
The Grand Palais, which usually hosts major cultural exhibitions but is currently a fencing and martial arts venue, confirmed it had been hit by a cyber attack but did not provide details.
According to the police source, a criminal investigation has been launched into an attack on information systems and blackmail by an organized group. | BGNES
