A bridge partially collapsed in the eastern German city of Dresden early this morning, rescue services said. They said there were no injuries, AFP reported.
A roughly 100-meter section of the Carola Bridge, which connects Dresden's historic old town with other parts of the city, fell into the Elbe River overnight, the Dresden fire department said.
The entire area was cordoned off, and traffic along the river was prohibited, the police wrote on the X social network.
Citizens were urged to stay away.
Emergency services were on the scene working on damage control to prevent further parts of the bridge from collapsing, fire department spokesman Michael Clare said.
The cause of the collapse is still unknown.
The part of the bridge that collapsed was the one intended for tram lines and pedestrian traffic. The road vehicle part was not affected.
The partial collapse also damaged two heating pipes, cutting off central heating in the area. | BGNES
