Gaza's Civil Protection Agency said 93 people were killed in an Israeli air strike on an residential building in the northern district of Beit Lahiya on Wednesday, AFP reported.
"The number of martyrs in the massacre at the Abu Nasr family home in Beit Lahiya has risen to 93 martyrs, and about 40 are still being searched for under the rubble," agency spokesman Mahmoud Bassal said.
The Israeli military (IDF) said it was "looking into the reports".
"The explosion happened at night and at first I thought it was shelling, but when I went outside after sunrise I saw people pulling bodies, limbs and wounded from under the rubble. Most of the casualties were women and children, and people were trying to rescue the wounded, but there are no hospitals or proper medical care," noted Rabi al-Shandaghli, who has taken shelter in a nearby school in Beit Lahiya.
Palestinians have searched among the rubble of the building and removed the dead, while others have mourned relatives.
A photo shows a charred body with long hair hanging from a window of the building in Beit Lahiya.
Several bodies were wrapped in white sheets, blankets and sheets as rescuers and relatives pulled them from the rubble of the building.
Relatives were also seen burying bodies as rescuers continued to search the rubble for survivors.
"The enemy has committed another horrific massacre against our people, and northern Gaza is being subjected to a campaign of ethnic cleansing and systematic displacement," Hamas said, condemning the Beit Lahiya attack. | BGNES
