66 people were killed in the "safe" zones of Gaza

Palestinians flee the Rafah areas amid renewed Israeli strikes in the southern Gaza Strip.

At least 66 people, including children, have been killed in "safe" areas in Gaza in four days, Save the Children said in a statement.

The organization called for urgent action to protect the civilian population from ongoing Israeli strikes, CNN reported.

"The attacks come less than a week after the International Court of Justice (ICJ) ordered Israel to "immediately" halt its military offensive in Rafah to protect lives and cut off essential aid supplies. Instead, the brutal violence in Rafah escalated. At least 66 people were killed and hundreds more were injured, including children," the statement added.

The director of Save the Children in the Occupied Palestinian Territories, Xavier Joubert, said the legal obligations created by the International Court of Justice ruling had been "categorically ignored".

"What more evidence do the leaders need to show that there is nowhere safe for children and families in Gaza? They are constantly, constantly fleeing for their lives, from one dangerous area to another. And they are not running by accident - they are going to the areas to which Israel directed them to go "for their safety". Then they are attacked, Joubert stressed.

Civilians in Gaza are suffering the "slow, agonizing effects of starvation" in addition to the ongoing bombardment.

"Children's mental and physical health is pushed beyond the limits as they suffer unimaginable psychological harm from the violence, serious physical injuries including loss of body parts, and loss of their families, homes and schools," he added.

The group says children in Gaza bear the brunt of the violence.
