An earthquake measuring 6.6 on the Richter scale has rocked Papua New Guinea, AFP reports.
The US Geological Survey (USGS) said the quake was 51 km deep and located 123.2 km from the nearest town of Kokopo.
PNG's National Disaster Centre said it was assessing the damage.
No tsunami warnings have been issued since the quake.
Earthquakes are common in Papua New Guinea, which sits atop the seismic Ring of Fire, an arc of intense tectonic activity that stretches across Southeast Asia and the entire Pacific Basin.
Although they rarely cause widespread damage in sparsely populated areas, they can trigger devastating landslides. | BGNES
