10-men Tottenham open Europa League campaign with a win over Qarabag

Tottenham Hotspur started their campaign successfully in the main phase of the Europa League tournament. Spurs prevailed over Qarabag (Azerbaijan) with a classic 3:0 win at home, despite playing almost the entire game with 10 men.

The game in north London got off to a late start due to traffic chaos around the stadium which delayed the first whistle. Already in the 8th minute, the hosts were left with 10 men on the field after the direct red card of Radu Dragusin. However, four minutes later Brennan Johnson put Ange Postecoglou and company ahead.

At the beginning of the second half, Pape Matar Sarr increased to 2:0. Soon after that, the guests had a chance to back into the match, but Toral Bayramov failed from the penalty spot. It wasn't until the 68th minute that Dominic Solanke scored after an assist from Son Heung-min, who has recently called for measures to be taken in relation to the busy football calendar.

Thus, Tottenham started with a victory in the second strongest European club competition. The Londoners will face Manchester United in the Premier League, and in their next match in the Europa League, the team will visit the Hungarian Ferencvaros.
