The founder of the Mango fashion empire died after an accident near Barcelona

Istanbul-born Isaac Andic, founder and owner of the Mango fashion empire, died in a mountain accident, the company said. Andic died at the age of 71.

The businessman slipped and fell from a 150-metre cliff while hiking with relatives in the Montserrat caves near Barcelona, Spanish newspaper La Vanguardia reported.

"His demise leaves a huge void, but we are all in some way his legacy and a testament to his achievements. It is up to us to ensure that Mango continues to be the project that Isaac was ambitious and proud of," said the company's chief executive Tony Ruiz.

Andic moved with his family from Turkey to the northeastern Spanish region of Catalonia in the 1960s and founded Mango in 1984. According to Forbes, his fortune is worth $4.5 billion. | BGNES
