Designer Kate Sylvester has announced the closure of her business

New Zealand fashion designer Kate Sylvester has announced the closure of her business after 31 years on the scene.
Sylvester and her partner and co-founder Wayne Conway announced that the brand will sell its final summer collection on 24 and cease operations in mid-2025, Star News reported.
"We want to leave the way we got into this business, still loving what we do and genuinely happy to do it," they said.
Sylvester began his career by hand sewing screen printed t-shirts with a punk rock twist.
The Massey fashion design graduate is promoting her first streetwear brand Sister through graffiti on the streets of Auckland.
"We started this company literally just with a wild faith in each other and with the dream of creating clothes that people could wear and love," the business partners said.
"From the day we opened the doors to the first store on Kitchener Street, we have worked incredibly hard for three decades. Now we must move on to a new chapter in our lives," they added.
The brand has created memorable shows, campaigns and collections in New Zealand and Australia and has mentored and worked with incredibly talented people, many of whom have gone on to become big names in the industry.
Sylvester has shown her designs at iD Dunedin Fashion Week and was a judge at the International Emerging Designer Awards./BGNES
