Craftsmanship, flair, and creativity at 080 Barcelona Fashion

The Hindu Holi festival; braiding techniques; and even a trip through time and space.

These are just a few of the sources of inspiration that the creators of this week's newest styles at 080 Barcelona Fashion used.

From Tuesday to Friday, the magnificent grounds of the Sant Pau art nouveau monument hosted a four-day event that brought together fashion labels and fashion enthusiasts. The 33rd edition of Catalonia's top fashion platform featured the newest trends from 24 brands and designers.

With 'Re-connection,' a collection to shine on winter evenings and, with hints to the past and future, 'a voyage through space and time,' Barcelona knitwear designer Escorpion got things started.

The 'Holi' spring-summer 2024 collection by Spanish company Hoss Intropia was inspired by the Hindu spring festival of the same name.

"Holi is pure excitement," Alejandra Valero, the design director of Hoss Intropia, says to Catalan News backstage before their performance.

"A ton of craftsmanship, well-made clothing, lots of texture, hand-printed designs, and natural dyes. In India, Holi is known as the festival of colors or joie de vivre. Every article of clothing worn for this occasion is exquisitely designed and thoughtfully chosen."

The designer hopes that those who wear the collection's pieces would find "happiness and vitality" in them.

The canvas upon which the patterns of Catalan label Simorra are formed is the craft of braiding fabric.

Simorra was established in 1978 in Barcelona with the goal of producing well-made, beautifully designed apparel for ladies.

Head of brand Eva Dimas and her family are fabric experts who teamed up with designer and entrepreneur Javier Simorra approximately two decades ago.

Each year, we select lovely themes to convey through our textiles. Surrounded by ironing boards, sewing machines, and rail upon rail of exquisite apparel, Eva tells Catalan News, "We develop fabrics thinking of them being able to express and to explain stories."

"I think this collection will be really surprising because we are doing a collection in a premium beachwear style, so you will see very nice looks."

The most recent collection emphasizes braiding as a focused and meditative art form.

"The idea is to be inspired by the fact of how women braid in community, and take all this inspiration into our fabrics, being able to express the need of society to be in community"./BGNES
