Cindy Crawford turned 58

One of the most successful supermodels, Cindy Crawford, is celebrating her birthday: on February 20, she turned 58. The American from an ordinary family managed to become the highest-paid model of the 90s of the last century, dropped out of university in chemistry because of a modeling contract, married Richard Gere, and managed to change the standards of beauty thanks to her famous mole.

Family

Cindy was born in Illinois to an electrician and a nurse. The future star of the catwalk grew up with two sisters, and as a teenager, she experienced the death of her younger brother from leukemia. Cindy Crawford became interested in modeling at the age of 16 when local photographer Roger Legel asked her to pose for the school newspaper. The photoshoot took place by the backyard pool of Sydney's high school friend's house. She likes the way she feels in front of the lens, and that's when Cindy decides to continue shooting.

Cindy convinces her parents to let her go and goes to Chicago in search of an agent, and they later accompany their daughter to her "first job meeting". In 1986, Crawford moved to New York.

In the early stages of her career, Cindy had the nickname Baby Gia because of her resemblance to supermodel Gia Karanji. Crawford's signature feature is a prominent mole on her face, which is often retouched in her early photos. After Cindy's first Vogue cover in 1986, in which editor-in-chief Grace Mirabella decided not to "remove" Cindy's mole, this distinctive feature became her trademark. But the main rival of Mirabella - Anna Wintour, who openly fought to take the place of her colleague and at that time was at the head of British Vogue, has a different opinion. For the January 1987 cover of British Vogue, Wintour deliberately removed a mole from Cindy's face.

Soon, Crawford became the most famous model and sex symbol of the 90s: she appeared on the covers of fashion magazines and became the most desired model at the shows of Chanel, Versace, Ralph Lauren, and many others. In 1988, Cindy unexpectedly decided to pose for Playboy, which was considered a step back for supermodels of this level. She becomes the first supermodel to pose nude for this issue. The model also shot for Sports Illustrated, where her swimsuit calendar became an international bestseller. In addition to modeling, Cindy hosted the House of Style show on MTV for several years, recorded successful video lessons on fitness, starred in films, wrote children's books, and since 1992 has been the main ambassador for Pepsi.

Cindy Crawford was married to Richard Gere from 1991 to 1995. The two were considered one of the most beautiful couples of the time and appeared together on the cover of Vogue. Shortly after her breakup with Geer, Cindy met Randy Gerber, a former mannequin designer and owner of trendy restaurants and nightclubs in New York and Los Angeles. They married in May 1998 in the Bahamas. In 2000, Cindy decided to end her career to focus on her family. Two children were born from the marriage: Presley Walker (July 2, 1999) and Kaya Jordan (September 3, 2001). Children are also modeling. Presley is occasionally photographed for photo shoots and advertising campaigns, and Kaya is one of the most sought-after models today./BGNES
