Actress Carey Mulligan is the new face of luxury brand Prada.
The Hollywood star was photographed by Steven Meisel for the fashion house's spring 2025 campaign, in which she plays several different women at once.
The company explained that the new commercial "explores the notion of multiplicity while celebrating the individuality and unceasing facets that make up Prada's complex identity - the multiplicity that can fit into a whole."
In the portraits, Carey appears with long, straight, curly hair, a black wig and a short hairstyle, wearing a variety of outfits, and the caption 'Carey Mulligan acts like Prada' is written below each image, in homage to the 2021 'Feels Like Prada' campaign.
The company said of the caption, "(It) serves as a mantra that acknowledges the performative nature of Prada as an idea. Fashion is a tool for change here, the clothes alter attitudes, changing both our perceptions as viewers and those of Mulligan as a performer. Yet these images are not simply performances, but rather are embodiments of other lives, reflections of alternative realities channeled through one person, fashion used as a tool to aid transformation."
And just as the transformations of the 'Promising Young Woman' actress make her still recognizable, the style of Miuccia Prada and her creative director Raf Simons is unique and "defies easy categorization and uniqueness, and its unpredictability and coexistence of contradictory elements are a reflection of both humanity and the world today."
Mulligan, 39, admitted that she used to be "terrified" of wearing designer dresses on the red carpet, but after becoming a parent, she didn't care as much.
"When I was younger, I was filled with insecurity - red carpets made me cry. I was afraid to wear big and expensive dresses. It felt like a model's job and I didn't know what role I should play," she told Sunday Times Style magazine.
"The first time I was photographed for the press after I had my daughter, she was one month old. I literally ran out on the red carpet, did it, ran home, took the dress off and fed her into my Spanx and 15-centimeter heels," Carey further explained. | BGNES
