The actions of the Serbs in Bosnia and Herzegovina do not bode well for the future of the Balkans. Security expert and former Deputy Minister of Defense Yordan Bozhilov said this to BGNES.
He regretted that the optimism that existed only a few months ago has now disappeared. The reason is the events that are happening in the Western Balkans.
"We see that relations between Belgrade and Kosovo are becoming radicalized again. This is one of the reasons to strengthen the NATO KFOR contingent in Kosovo, so as not to allow excesses," noted Bozhilov.
The expert pointed out that the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina is not developing positively either.
"Instead of consolidating the state, looking for common solutions on how to continue to function this trinity that has been established, the leader of the Republika Srpska Milorad Dodik started talking about secession, which does not bode well for a peaceful future for the Balkans," warned Bojilov.
He expressed hope that Kosovo will become an associate member of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, whose spring session is being held these days in Sofia. "The problem with Kosovo is that some member states do not recognize it as an independent state. We will see how the debate will develop," added Bozhilov.
He emphasized that for the moment in the conditions of Russian aggression against Ukraine the most important thing is restraint. "It has to rest on a strong defence, but unity is also important. From this point of view, the accession of Sweden and Finland add to the capabilities. These are countries with an extremely well-developed army and defense industry. In this way, the entire eastern flank is consolidated. Their joining right now is a testimony to the danger that Russia represents," the expert said. /BGNES
