With the first mandate, GERB-UDF will try to cut the Gordian knot of the political crisis

It is expected to become clear on Monday morning who the candidate for Prime Minister of GERB-UDF is.

GERB-UDF leader Boyko Borisov will go to the president on Monday to receive the first mandate and to propose a government to put an end to the political crisis that has gripped Bulgaria for three years now. Forming a government with a longer management horizon is extremely important both because of the complex geopolitical situation and because of the increased danger of the collapse of parliamentary democracy, a BGNES reporter reported.

It is expected to become clear on Monday morning who the candidate for Prime Minister of GERB-UDF is.

With the handing over of the mandate, the Gordian knot of the country's political crisis will either begin to unravel or tighten even more, as all parliamentary groups have already announced their views on supporting or participating in possible talks to form a government with him.

After the first round of consultations with the parliamentary forces, it became clear that GERB will propose a minority government, but if it does not gather support, there will be new elections. Borisov himself emphasized that the only possible stable formula for governance is with the participation of the first three political forces.

DPS will support GERB and will count on President Rumen Radev to convince the other parliamentary forces to do the same.

"We continue the change - Democratic Bulgaria" (WCC-DB) will not support either a cabinet of GERB and the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF), nor one of "Vazrazhdane", if it comes to an attempt for a government with the third mandate.

The second political force in the country - the MRF, has already declared to President Radev that it will support the first mandate on the grounds that "the people do not want new elections, but for the political process in the country to be normalized, and to have a regular cabinet to solve the problems of people". It is normal to still support the mandate of the winner of the elections, and it is absurd for small parties to ask for support from the big ones, on the condition that the same forces would stand in a configuration with the first mandate, said Yordan Tsonev from the party.

PP-DB has repeatedly stated that the first mandate will not receive their support in any form, and the coalition will remain in opposition. The co-presidents Kiril Petkov and Asen Vassilev, as well as the former prime minister (elected by the votes of GERB-UDF, while they were in "assembly") Academician Nikolay Denkov preferred to communicate with the leader of GERB Boyko Borisov through the media and social networks, where they announced, that Borisov cannot count on their support, since it was he who "overthrew the Denkov-Gabriel cabinet."

"We will not support and will not participate in the formation of a government with the first and second terms. Our arguments for this are very clear - GERB broke a working governance formula - yes, difficult, creaky, but a formula that supported a majority, which until the beginning of January (2024) was carrying out the necessary reforms at a good pace. During the election campaign, GERB also burned all possible fields of interaction. At this time, there is no sign, nor any conditions, of a change in this position of ours. That's why I categorically confirm it," announced Nadezhda Yordanova from the coalition a few days ago.

From "Vazrazhdane" they remain in the firm position that they will not support a mandate from any party other than theirs. If it comes to the third mandate and President Rumen Radev decides to hand it to them, the cabinet will be made up only of their experts. The party has already rejected the proposal of GERB-UDF to sit at the same table for negotiations on the formation of a government on the grounds that "the only government that the political organization will support is a cabinet with a mandate from "Vazrazhdane". The party also announced that if they receive a mandate, they will set five conditions for all parties without MRF (with which they will not even negotiate): " holding a referendum on preserving the Bulgarian lev, holding a referendum on leaving NATO, lifting sanctions against the Russian Federation and financial compensations for the Bulgarian entrepreneurs who suffered from them, ending the sending of military aid to Ukraine and preventing Bulgaria from being drawn into the military conflict by sending a Bulgarian military contingent, convening a negotiating team to renegotiate the conditions for Bulgaria's membership in the European Union, which are currently not profitable'.

And the BSP categorically announced that it will not support a GERB-UDF mandate. Although the internal political struggles within the centenary take precedence over other political affairs of the party, even if Kaloyan Metodiev, expelled from the parliamentary group of the BSP, supports a possible government with the first mandate, it is unlikely that he will attract any of his former colleagues to the same idea. A week after the elections, the BSP rejected the GERB-UDF invitation for negotiations to form a cabinet on the grounds that "the BSP has a consistent policy and a decision of the National Council not to support a government with a GERB and MRF mandate, and the format that the GERB proposes it contradicts the understanding of a supra-party and expert government that would bring the country out of the political and institutional crisis". However, the BSP clarified that they will hold talks within the framework of the parliamentary dialogue about the legislative program of the 50th National Assembly and Bulgaria's priorities.

The first mandate cannot hope for support from the party of Slavi Trifonov - There is Such People (ITN), although a few days ago the chairman of its parliamentary group, Toshko Yordanov, stated that they would sit down for talks with Borisov. During the consultations with President Radev, ITN simply asked to be given the third mandate, promising to find enough support to form an expert government, even with a prime minister from another political power. "We don't want the prime minister to be from "There is such a people". GERB's approach was "we propose an expert cabinet, but the prime minister, the foreign and the military from us", which is not an approach for an expert cabinet. He can be close to any political party, but it doesn't have to be ours if all the others agree. There is no problem for any party if there is agreement from the others," said the chairman of the ITN parliamentary group Toshko Yordanov after the consultations with the president.

The smallest parliamentary group "Velichie" also announced that they will not support a government with the first mandate of GERB-SDS, but for no other reason than because they sought a meeting with Boyko Borisov, but their request was rejected. "And we do not have clarity about what this government will do and what commitments it makes. An expert government would be a "hide" behind which there would be coalition relations that should not be visible to the general public. This is a kind of populism and demagoguery that is taking place in the building of the National Assembly. The closest to us is a programmatic government with clear goals and tasks from the persons who have the greatest confidence in forming it," announced the leader of Velichie.

If the spiral with the delivery and return of the mandates turns and the files are returned unfulfilled, our country faces the seventh early parliamentary elections in a row within three years. I BGNES
