"We Continue the Change" want the Bulgarian National Assembly to approve the nominations for a new Bulgarian European Commissioner

We Continue the Cnahge - Democratic Bulgaria coalition (WCC-DB) want the Bulgarian National Assembly to approve the nominations for a new Bulgarian European Commissioner.

According to Kiril Petkov, co-chairman of WCC-DB, this is the only legitimate way for Bulgaria to have a European Commissioner enjoying the support of the highest authority in Bulgaria.

Coalition "Continuing the change - Democratic Bulgaria" (PP-DB) submitted proposals for changes to the Rules of Procedure of the National Assembly so that the nominations from the Council of Ministers for the Bulgarian European Commissioner would be approved by the Parliament.

"For us, this is the only legitimate way Bulgaria can have a European Commissioner who has the support of the highest body in Bulgaria - the National Assembly, and not rely on official offices to undermine us with someone who will be there and represent Bulgaria the next 5 years", explained Kiril Petkov.

Already today, the WCC-DB will write a letter to the acting Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev and the Speaker of the Parliament Raya Nazaryan, calling for the proposed procedure to move as quickly as possible and for every single nomination that is proposed to be heard and voted on in the National Assembly.

The coalition is adamant that only in this way will this person, who is elected European Commissioner, have the opportunity to represent Bulgaria legitimately.

"We all know there is a political crisis. We all know that the official cabinet does not have such a mandate to propose a European commissioner for the next 5 years," Petkov stressed.

WCC-DB will also put forward its nomination for European Commissioner, but Petkov did not reveal which name they have united around in the coalition.

"For us, the more important thing is the procedure - the process, not the person. The fact is that if everyone picks their candidates, and we haven't come up with a process to legitimize that person, it will become another political fight. For us, the post is not so important politically, it is important for us that this person should represent Bulgaria most correctly. The National Assembly must stand behind this person, there must be a consensus," he also said and concluded that every political force would like the final nomination to be legitimate. | BGNES
