WCC-DB coalition want to postpone the mandate, President Radev insists on compliance with the Constitution

"We Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria" (WCC-DB) asked President Rumen Radev late yesterday for time and a postponement of the handing over of the second mandate to form a government in order to find support for important reforms directed against corruption. President Radev emphasized that the Constitution must be respected in its part for handing over the mandates, reported BGNES.

The meeting with the president is at the request of WCC-DB. At it, they presented their proposals for getting out of the current political crisis.  The Chairman of the PG of the WCC-DB Academician Nikolay Denkov presented the proposals of his political formation.

"In the last three years, we alone have shouldered the difficult task of forming a regular government. We took the political toll for it,” he said.
The crux of the crisis, he says, is that those who overthrew his government are now unable to form their own. “What did they achieve by doing this? What did they help the citizens with? These questions have no answer today," said Academician Denkov and added that crises require non-standard solutions.

"We offer a non-standard solution for getting out of the political crisis. At its core is the failed fight against corruption. The place of corrupt politicians is not in the National Assembly. Their place is elsewhere," said Denkov.

For this reason, the WCC-DB is proposing "a package of legal solutions with which we can take this missing step to rid the political system of corrupt individuals," he added.

According to him, if the problem of corruption is not solved, it will not matter who will be the prime minister and who will be the ministers. "This will not be the main thing that will solve the problems," pointed out the chairman of the PG of WCC-DB.

"We are proposing a declaration that sets out exactly these important steps that need to be taken and we will seek broad political support for it. That's why we need some time and we have come to you with an appeal to discuss this possibility", Academician Denkov addressed Radev.

"Our expectations are that as early as tomorrow, what we are proposing will be sent to all the people's representatives. This is not just about a declaration, we want real laws passed. We don't want to deal with replacement," said Academician Denkov.

Radev stated that he fully understands that the handing over of the second mandate to WCC-DB is a surprise and understands their lack of readiness and the need for time.

"From what you presented, I understand that you need time for the work of the parliament. Parliament to do certain things for which we have been waiting for years. But we must draw a clear distinction between this problem. Article 99 of the Constitution deals only with the procedure for forming a government, not the legislative program of the parliament," emphasized Radev.

"The main question is whether there is a majority in the 50 National Assembly. As required by the Constitution, you must answer this important question first. You have 39 people's representatives, and your ideas require a majority, and for some even a qualified majority. Therefore, it is extremely important to find an answer to this question first. I expect you to take immediate steps to clarify the situation regarding finding political support in the 50 National Assembly," the head of state said.

President Rumen Radev emphasized that we must comply with the requirements of the Constitution. The procedure requires us to focus on forming a government. The Constitution should not be compromised in any way, Radev emphasized. | BGNES
