Two military helicopters extinguish the fire in the Bulgarian town of Elin Pelin warehouses from the air

At 11:10 a.m. today, the second Air Force helicopter - Mi-17 - took off to carry out firefighting in the areas affected by the incident near Elin Pelin.

Earlier, at 10:40 a.m., the "Cougar" took off from the Vrazhdebna air base to join the fire extinguishing activities in the pyrotechnic warehouses. The helicopter, which is equipped with a suspended container, pours water over the affected areas. A coordinator from the fire safety services is also on board the machine.

Before that, a reconnaissance flight was carried out, after which it was judged that it was possible to carry out an aerial extinguishment.

BGNES reminds that one person among the seriously injured after the explosion in the pyrotechnic warehouse died. Doctors in "Pirogov" are fighting for the life of a second victim - a 20-year-old woman, the daughter of the deceased.

The temperature during the explosions in the warehouses for pyrotechnics reached over 1000 degrees. The good news is that the warehouse, which holds 2 tons of TNT, is not affected. There is a very heavy fire in the centre of the storage base.

It will be possible to enter within 24 hours after the last thunder at the earliest.

District Prosecutor's Office-Sofia is already leading the investigation into the explosions and the fire. We will work on all possible versions, including that the explosions and the fire at the warehouses with pyrotechnics were caused by deliberate actions.

A mobile monitoring station was deployed last night in the area to monitor air quality and the movement of clouds formed by the fire. The Mayor of Sofia, Vasil Terziev, announced that for now there is no air pollution in Sofia. | BGNES
