The state of emergency remains in effect in the Bulgarian towns of Harmanli and Topolovgrad after the big wildfire

Due to the wildfire that broke out last night near the Bulgarian village of Cherepovo in Sakar, the state of emergency remains in the Bulgarian towns of Harmanli and Topolovgrad, reported the correspondent of BGNES in the region.

As of this morning, the fire is contained, but so far more than 10,000 acres have been scotched.

There is no danger to populated areas. Fire crews, a helicopter, heavy truck equipment and a 30-tonne water tanker battled the blaze yesterday.

The fire on the Bulgarian-Greek border continues to burn, with which firefighters and volunteers from both sides of the furrow are trying to cope for the 20th consequitive day.

Two days ago, a new wildfire from Greece entered near the western front of the already active blaze. Efforts are now focused on enclosing it in an attempt to contain it.

Winds and high temperatures continue to fan outbreaks on the eastern front of the wildfire, and even more people are expected to join the firefighting effort today. Fighting the fire from the air continues, at this moment there is no danger to the populated areas. Just in case, clearings are being built around the villages of Petrovo and Goleshevo as a precaution. I BGNES
