Vasil Bozhkov, the Bulgarian businessman sanctioned under the "Magnitsky" law, announced a new political project - the Center National Movement.
Bozhkov's previous political project, the "Bulgarian Summer" party, was suspended at the end of 2021 after the party was placed under sanctions under the Magnitsky law.
The lecturer at Sofia University, Dr. Darin Drosev, was presented as the chairman of the Governing Council of the political movement.
BGNES reminds you that in January 2020, Bozhkov left Bulgaria and took refuge in Dubai to avoid arrest. He was subsequently charged with 18 charges, including murder, money laundering, tax evasion, rape, and more. More than 200 witnesses were questioned on the charges brought against him, 18 European investigation warrants and requests for legal assistance were sent to 17 countries.
On August 26 of last year, the Sofia City Court imposed a pretrial detention order for Bozhkov, who returned to Bulgaria the previous day. The measure is for one case - for gambling and for unpaid fees for over half a billion BGN. According to the prosecutor's office, a computer with Vasil Bozhkov's e-mail shows that "the accused had business relations with the Russian citizen Yevgeny Prigozhin" (leader of the Russian private army "Wagner", who died under unclear circumstances in a plane crash after his rebellion against Vladimir Putin) and a number of other Russian citizens sanctioned after the annexation of Crimea.
According to prosecutors, Bozhkov is an instigator of official crimes with 300 separate acts for more than 500 million, and he is under investigation for tax crimes and money laundering in Moldova. /BGNES
