"As a result of the political crisis in recent years, we have lost the initiative and leadership. However, our readiness to adopt the euro remains high. To finalize the process in 2025, we need a sustainable pro-European political construction".
This was stated by the governor of the Bulgarian National Bank (BNB), Dimitar Radev, at the international conference "Bulgaria in the Eurozone, when?", BGNES reported.
"Marginal topics are displacing the real agenda of the country. The scale of the loss is measured not in millions, but in billions. Bulgaria must complete European integration by joining the Eurozone as soon as possible," stressed Radev.
The governor explained that Bulgaria has a long history in the process, with some learned and other unlearned issues.
"Bulgaria was to a large extent the initiator and leader in the last stage of the expansion of the Eurozone in 2018. In recent years, we have been wandering in the labyrinth of the political crisis," the governor of the BNB also said.
We're pretty much technically ready. The preparation of the commercial banks is going according to plan, and our mint is fully ready. The fleet of vehicles is in the process of being renovated. The BNB and the banking sector will certainly be fully ready by the end of the year for the country's EU membership, he stressed.
According to him, there is still work to be done regarding the non-banking financial sector and anti-money laundering measures.
"We need a pro-European political structure. This way we will achieve several goals: restoration of political contacts at the highest level; adoption of the Euro Adoption Law as quickly as possible; speeding up work on technical preparation," explained Radev. /BGNES
