The Embassy of the Czech Republic in Bulgaria lowered its national flag to half-mast in memory of the victims killed by 24-year-old student David Kozak, reported a BGNES reporter.
Mourning candles are placed in front of the building of the Czech Embassy in Sofia. The European Union (EU) flag is also at half-mast.
BGNES recalls that the Czech Republic declared December 23 a day of national mourning after gunman David Kozak killed 14 people and wounded 25 others at the Faculty of Arts of Charles University in Prague, which is located near major tourist sites such as the XIV Charles Bridge century.
The violence in the historic center of the city prompted the evacuation of civilians from the area and the deployment of heavily armed police.
The shooter, David Kozak, killed himself when police intervened.
Kozak was legally in possession of a weapon. He was investigated for three murders before the Charles University shooting. Police said he shot his father before heading to the university. Kozak is also being investigated for the murder of another man and his two-month-old daughter in a forest on the eastern outskirts of Prague a week ago.
Local media reported that the shooting at Charles University was the worst mass shooting in the Czech Republic in decades.
Czech Prime Minister Petar Fiala said the shooting at Charles University was not linked to terrorism and organized crime, noting that "it was the work of a lone person". He called the incident "a horrific act for which there is no justification".
The President of the Czech Republic, Petar Pavel, said that he was shocked by the violence./BGNES
