Bulgarian culture is again a non-priority for the government, says the chairman of the Union of Artists in Bulgaria Hristo Mutafchiev. One of the most popular actors in our country will join in person the protest on November 1 - the Day of the Leaders of the Bulgarian National Revival.
"The Day of Leaders of the Bulgarian National Revival is round the corner, yet it will be an occasion not only for celebration, but also for reckoning and protest," writes Mutafchiev in a position calling on the members of the Union of Artists in Bulgaria to support the protest of artists and professionals who work in museums, galleries, libraries and community centers and those working in the field of performing arts.
"On November 1, I will personally support the protest of Bulgarian cultural figures and the protest declaration of the National Federation "Culture" to the "Podkrepa" Labout Confederation against the humiliatingly low remuneration of those working in libraries, museums, galleries, music and theater institutes, the Bulgarian National radio and the State Archives Agency. I will be with them in front of the Metropolitan Library at 12:00 on November 1st, Wednesday," the actor wrote.
The chairman of the Bulgarian Artists Union says that Bulgarian culture is again a non-priority for the government, and this is evident in terms of the budget and the budget forecast of the Ministry of Finance. According to the latest data, the shortfall in the funding of the performing arts in the state amounts to over 80,000,000 BGN.
"Measures have not yet been taken to update and adopt new, higher uniform cost standards for funding state cultural institutes that operate in the field of performing arts. At this time, it is not clear how the amount will be determined of the standard between the minimum and maximum specified in government decree No. 88 of June 1, 2023. We categorically agree with the requests of the colleagues from the National Federation "Culture" to rethink the responsibility that the minister should take and to sign the collective bargained agreement.
Let's be public-spirited, let's be together, let's be firm and uncompromising!" concludes Hristo Mutafichev. /BGNES
