The bulgarian rock legend Kiril Marichkov passed away

The legendary musician Kiril Marichkov has passed away, reports BGNES.

The tragedy happened in an accident in the village of Selanovtsi. Kirill Marichkov had a concert with "The Foundation" in the Vratsa village, but when getting on stage he fell.

An ambulance was called to the scene. The musician had a severe cranio-brain injury. He died in the ambulance.

Because of the accident, the concert was stopped and police blockaded the area.

Kirill Marichkov was born on October 30, 1944. He was a singer, musician and composer, best known for his work in the rock band "Shchurtsite" (The Crickets).

Marichkov is a descendant of the prominent Bulgarian revolutionary and politician Georgi Stransky, grandson of the prominent architect Kiro Marichkov, and on his mother's side - of the conductor Boris Leviev. His father, Kiril Kirilov Marichkov, studied law and diplomacy first at the Sorbonne in Paris, then in Lausanne. His mother, Irina Levieva, is an artist.

Marichkov's first steps in the musical field were the rock formation "Bandaratsite". There he played bass guitar, and in 1967, after the Bundarats split up, Marichkov and drummer Petar Tsankov founded the Shturtsy.

In 2010 he was awarded the Order of St. Cyril and Methodius" first degree for his especially great services in the field of culture and art. In 2020, he also received the highest state award - the Order of Stara Planina - first degree. | BGNES
