The 51st National Assembly of Bulgaria did not elect a speaker after a run-off between Raya Nazaryan and Andrei Tsekov

Raya Nazaryan from GERB-UDF and Andrei Tsekov from WCC-DB went to a run-off for the position of speaker of the Bulgarian National Assembly, BGNES reported.

At the ballot Andrei Tsekov did not gather the necessary support for the presidency. For the nomination of WCC-DB 68 deputies voted in favor, against - 86, abstentions - 85.

In the second round of voting, the nomination of GERB-UDF also did not gather the necessary support to lead the parliament again. Nazaryan garnered 68 votes in favor, 121 were against, 50 MPs abstained.

ITN's Toshko Yordanov made a motion that, in order not to enter the familiar stalemate, the oldest MP be temporarily elected Speaker of the National Assembly and asked for a half-hour break.

Previously, none of the proposed candidates had gathered support. The BSP nominated Assoc. Natalia Kiselova as speaker, for which 51 MPs voted in favor.
Nikoleta Kuzmanova, nominated by TSP, also did not gather the necessary support, as did lawyer Petar Petrov from Revival. | BGNES
