The 50th National Assembly Day 1: MPs did not elect a speaker, the parties are exchanging remarks

The 50th National Assembly did not elect a speaker during two rounds of voting, reported BGNES.

Initially, four candidates received nominations - Raya Nazaryan from GERB-UDF (GERB-Union of Democratic Forces), Petar Petrov from "Vazrazhdane" political party, Silvi Kirilov from ITN (There is Such People political party) and Prof. Yuliana Mateeva from "Velichie" political party.

Silvi Kirilov and Yuliana Mateeva dropped out after the first vote. A runoff followed between the nomination of GERB-UDF and "Vazrazhdane".

The lawyer from the party of Kostadin Kostadinov did not receive the necessary support. 41 MPs voted for it, 112 were against it, 85 abstained.

In the second round, 114 MPs voted for Nazaryan from GERB-UDF, and 70 were against.

In the subsequent re-voting, 115 voted "for", 69 - "against", 53 abstained.

The chairperson announced a 30-minute break.

The first session of the 50th Bulgarian National Assembly summary:

We are ready to participate only in a government of shared responsibility. The second option is new early parliamentary elections. We are ready to take all the risks. This was stated by Toma Bikov from GERB-SDS in a statement on behalf of the parliamentary group, immediately after the people's representatives from the 50th National Assembly were sworn in.

Denkov was adamant that they would be a pro-European opposition and would monitor any suspicion of corruption.

"We will fight for laws to help businesses, guaranteeing competitiveness, quality education, and reforms guaranteeing the independence of the judiciary," Denkov is emphatic.

At the beginning of his speech, he recalled that for the past three years, only the We Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria (WCC-DB) coalition has produced a regular government, but it was also overthrown.

None of the MPs have learned their lesson. The successes that Denkov wants to attribute to himself are no more than ours.

It was easy for him to be elected prime minister because GERB supported him, now there is an irresponsible WCC-DB who wants to throw the country into chaos. This was stated by the leader of GERB, Boyko Borisov, BGNES reported.

With their corruption burdens in recent months, WCC-DB has 22 MPs, GERB 68, which is three times more, Borisov commented.

"To get out of the crisis, the efforts of all parties are needed. For us, the key words in the 50th National Assembly here are responsibility, reason and dialogue". This was stated by the acting chairman of the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP), Atanas Zafirov, in the party's first statement from the rostrum of the National Assembly.

Let the colleagues humble themselves, said Peevski. We do not need rescuers in Bulgaria, we have reached this 30% activity of these rescuers, said the leader of the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) Delyan Peevski, reported BGNES.

Hristo Ivanov applied to leave the 50th National Assembly, reported BGNES.

The application has already been filed in the parliament's registry.

A day after the June 9 parliamentary elections, Hristo Ivanov announced that he was resigning from the post of chairman of "Yes, Bulgaria" because of the weak performance of the party in coalition with "We continue the change". He also announced that he would leave the National Assembly as soon as he was sworn in as a representative.

In the morning Nikolay Markov from the Velichie party was late and left the plenary hall without taking the oath.

Most of you took the same oath in the 49th National Assembly and violated it repeatedly, changed the constitution as you like and were guided by your own party interests. That is why we are in this situation with extremely low voter turnout. This was stated by Toshko Yordanov from ITN (There is Such People political party).

I wish a successful fulfilment of the duty to the people and the country. The MRF has been working in the field for a whole month, we have heard what people are telling us. A chasm has been dug between the politicians and the agenda of the society, the agenda of the society is not the agenda of the politicians. People do not want new early parliamentary elections. This was stated by the deputy chairman of the MRF Yordan Tsonev, BGNES reported. |BGNES
