Russian Ambassador to Bulgaria Mitrofanova to BGNES: The Metropolitan Municipality allowed us to celebrate the Day of the Soviet Army

Yes, of course, there is a permit for our event. Thus, the ambassador of the Russian Federation in Bulgaria H.E. Eleonora Mitrofanova commented to BGNES on whether there is a ban by the mayor of Sofia Municipality on celebrating the Day of the Soviet Army.

Asked how she would comment on the death of opposition leader Alexei Navalny, the Russian ambassador said: "So far there are no official comments on this occasion - neither what happened nor why, so we cannot comment. We can say that everything that happened until at the moment, it's just cheap speculation on the matter."

According to her, Navalny was heavily guarded. "We have no interest in his death," Mitrofanova is categorical.

Regarding the accusations made by the wife of the Russian opposition leader - Yulia Navalnaya, who in a video message directly blamed President Vladimir Putin for the death of Alexei Navalny, Mitrofanova stated that Navalny was a CIA agent, as well as his wife. "If you noticed, 10 minutes after his death, she already accused our president that he had killed Navalny. You understand that this cannot be done when there is no evidence," she emphasized.

Mitrofanova also noted that it is very sad that the agreement between Bulgaria and Russia on the protection of mutual monuments of culture and history is not respected.

BGNES reminds us that this morning citizens protested in front of the Capital Municipality because of the permission given by Mayor Vasil Terziev to the Russian Embassy to officially celebrate the Day of the Soviet Army today at the "Monument-Kostnitsa" in the municipality. "Lozenets". The disaffected chanted "Out of Russia from Bulgaria", "Out of Mitrofanova and Russian agents from Bulgaria", and "Russia is an evil empire".

Earlier this morning, councilors from PP-DB-Spasi Sofia also issued a statement and called on Mayor Vasil Terziev "to impose a ban on this triumph of death, called the celebration of "Day of the Defenders of the Fatherland" or the Day of the Soviet Army".
